Upholstered Headboard, of sorts…

A couple weeks ago, “Little E” and “Little H” decided they wanted to have separate bedrooms.  Well actually, “Little E” kicked “Little H” out of their joint abode.  Which landed me in yet another project zone.  I wanted to share this one in particular.

Upholstered Headboard for “Little E”

It was very simple, inexpensive and only took a couple hours to complete.  Total project was under $25.

I started with a piece of insulation board and cut it to size.  I wanted to add a little shape to it, so we used a salad plate for the curve.

“Little E” traced around it and I cut the shape out using an razor blade knife.

We flipped the cut out piece over and used it to trace the other side so that they would match.

Voila!  Headboard shape done!

Next, after ironing the fabric, I used double sided carpet tape I had left over from another project to attach the fabric to the headboard.

I saved the curves for last and used hot glue and pins to make sure the fabric was secured.

I’m still working on pillows, lamps and such, but I just couldn’t wait to share!  We decided to add an “E” after I got it upholstered.  Ideally, I would have had it monogrammed before, but “Little E”  just painted a wood letter and we attached it on the front.  What a great helper she was!  Probably why I got this project finished so quickly!

Hope this inspires you!

For the Love of Bamboo

I’ve been helping a friend redecorate which means lots of time spent on Craigslist.  I can’t say enough what a great resource Craigslist is.  You never know what you’re going to find…

Here is what I came across this morning:

craig1For $240 your could be the proud owner of this bamboo dining set.  It may not look like much now, but what about after a little bit of spray paint, fabric and love…

Don’t need a dining table, use it as a desk

Think that’s nice, wait until you see my next find.  I’ve got to figure out where to put this baby and fast…

You may need to sit down.  Want to know the price?  How about $85 little ones?

Do you really need inspiration for this?  Well, ok…

What’s better than finding treasures like these in the comfort of your home while sipping coffee and eating bonbons? (well, it’s a little early for the bonbons!)

Today’s Tip

Don’t buy supermarket flowers, go outside and clip 3 different types of greenery in various shades and types.  It lasts longer and is FREE!

Outdoor Inspiration

I was over at my parent’s house this past weekend doing a little payback for all the work my Dad did on the rental house for us.  My parents are in the home stretch of a backyard renovation.  Some of my best memories growing up took place in this backyard and now I see my own children making memories here too – there’s nothing better!

I don’t have any before shots, but a lot of you reading this spent time here growing up as well and are familiar with the layout.  For those of you who didn’t, the pool area stayed the same.  Mostly the flower beds changed up there.  The main focus was on the side yard.  It was basically a flat, weeded mess.  Well not anymore…

My dad built the retaining wall and laid the flagstone path.

Did I mentioned that my parent’s did all the work themselves?!

What’s Blue and White with Birds Allover?

I had a very happy Mother’s Day.  Check out what my surprise was.  Yep, ginger jars!  I love them!
And do you see the forsythia in the picture.  I have not cut new ones since I posted about it weeks ago.  Can you believe it?!  And to make it even better, the branches are rooting.  So, when I get tired of them inside, I can take them out and stick those beauties in the ground!

The After, Finally!

I bet you thought I forgot!  No, I’m just slow.  I’m finally ready to show you the after pictures of the rental house.  First, though, let’s re-visit the fireplace.  Remember the dark brick?

Well, I took my two little helpers over there today and we knocked that  project out!

Here it is half-way:

And here it is finished:

It only took a couple of hours and about half a quart of paint. What’cha think?  I personally think it’s a vast improvement.

OK, with out further ado…

(Please note that I am well aware of my need to improve my photography skills.  I’ve heard that light is your friend, but apparently it’s not mine.  Please excuse the poor pics.)

What a difference a LOT of paint can make.

Anyone looking for a house to rent in Snellville?  I hear this one has a really great landlord ;)

Splish Splash

My girls had their birthday party a couple weeks ago.  It was tons of fun!  Not even the drizzle could fizzle out the excitement!

I’m pretty proud of my cupcakes.

I used Elfin cookies for the bathing beauties and Peach Gummy Rings for the life preservers.

These are my Sister-in-Law’s from my Niece’s birthday.  I think she should get the most props.  These are stink’n cute!

Rendezvous

The hubs and I took a little trip to France last week in celebration of our 10th Wedding Anniversary.  To say it was a dream would be an injustice.
